Frequently Asked Questions
I’m new to counselling. What can I expect?
What a courageous step! Before your first session, experiencing anxiety is natural. I aim to create a warm and welcoming space where you can ease into that first session. You set the pace, in terms of what you’d like to discuss. There’s no pressure to go faster than you are comfortable with. If you’re unsure of where to begin, I will gently guide you and likely ask quite a few questions to get a fuller picture of what life is like for you.
How long are sessions?
For most individuals, 50-minute sessions feel like the right amount of time. These are standard length of counselling sessions. For some, a longer session may feel like a better fit. These can be helpful if you prefer time to get comfortable or if you’d like to dive deeper. Extended sessions are 75-minutes. We can discuss and decide together what is best for you.
How frequent are sessions?
We recommend coming to sessions weekly for the first few weeks to gain some momentum, and to aid in the process of us getting to know one another. After this, many clients tend to taper down to bi-weekly sessions, perhaps followed by monthly sessions if you feel you have met your counselling goals or would like to “maintain” your progress.
Do you offer direct billing?
We do not offer direct billing. Sessions are billed using the credit card on file and a detailed receipt is provided to you after each session, so that you can submit to your insurance provider.
Most insurance providers reimburse within 1-2 business days. Please double check that the services of a registered clinical counsellor are reimbursable under your extended health benefits plan.
What is your cancellation policy?
As we strive to provide excellent care and accommodate all our clients, we require at least 48 hours notice to cancel or reschedule a session. This policy is crucial for us to manage our scheduling and offer your slot to other clients in need.
You can cancel or reschedule your appointment online through your client profile in the Jane App, or email your counsellor, providing at least 48 hours notice.
If a session is cancelled less than 48 hours prior to the appointment or in the event of non-attendance, the full session fee applies.
